I've been thinking a lot about connections lately. How much it fulfills me to introduce an amazingly talented person to someone who owns a shop, how much I like when I can give help to someone waiting at the bus stop, unsure of whether they're in the right place. Velouria has been such a delightful venue for making these connections. I've had the privilege of assembling a boutique full of clothing and jewelry that I feel intensely passionate about in order to introduce it to our thoughtful customers who appreciate details, ethically-made goods, and small runs. I get to help dads find the gift they give to their wives right after the birth of their babies, which is a totally surprising side effect of Velouria's proximity to Swedish hospital. Chika, Amanda and I have helped customers find dresses and jewelry for funerals, weddings, first dates, and family events. We've helped choose necklaces to accompany siblings being reunited after years and years and the critical first gift for a new girlfriend. And we love it. We love creating collaborations between our designers. We love writing about the amazing things our friends and colleagues do. We love seeing the connections--which are totally separate from anything we set up--between the designers we love and other artists we love. It gives us such joy; neuron-firing, endorphin-rush type joy that keeps us going through some of the quieter days and days at the desk, figuring out taxes and bookkeeping. Thanks for making this endeavor such a meaningful experience for us, we are truly grateful for these opportunities.
'til next time,
