Celeste Cooning is a visual artist in Seattle who's work largely focuses on intricate cut paper and tyvek, creating patterns and images through negative space and the texture that cutting creates.  The effect of which can obscure the image while simultaneously illuminating it.  She was our artist of the month in December, and more notably she has done a number of large-scale public art installations throughout the Pacific Northwest.  Check out her work here and here.

Over the River Series

This is Part One in a series of three workshops with Seattle artist, Celeste Cooning.  There will also be an artist talk at Toshiro Kaplan Artist lofts on March 29th and a different workshop at E. Smith Mercantile on April 5th.  We encourage you to attend the whole series:

Hop around Pioneer Square with visual artist Celeste Cooning, as she investigates what it means to be a maker in the 21st century.  Explore shape, pattern, and texture through two interactive workshops at Velouria and E. Smith Mercantile bookending an artist talk at Tashiro Kaplan Artist Lofts.

This workshop series strives to nurture the creative spirit through cut paper, as well as, provide a window into the artist’s process and inspiration. Celeste shares her findings from a recent trip to Paris, France and the resulting body of work, Over the River, currently in progress.
