Velouria is pleased to present the work of textile-artist Colleen RJC Bratton. Having recently completed a month long artist residency at the Vermont Studio Center, we're excited to showcase Bratton's newest body of work.
Re-purposing textiles, Bratton creates fabric sculptures that investigate the intersection of space and self. Working with a palette of warm earth tones: umber, rich browns and variations of rust, her work is immediately familiar and inviting. Various homes, subway street cars, and white museum walls all creep into her soft sculptures which are based on the spaces Bratton herself inhabits. By skewing the perspective or approaching interiors from an unusual direction, Bratton's 2-dimensional sculptures take on their own energy, as transformative pieces of art.
Join us Thursday, September 1st for the opening reception from 6 - 9pm. There will be light refreshments and wonderful company.
